The same name keeps coming up when talking restaurants with friends in Rocky Point. “Have you been to Kaffee Haus?“
I waited too long to try this place! Kaffee Haus is the best breakfast in Peñasco, hands down!
Kaffee Haus defines itself as a Belgian/German cafe, but they have an extensive menu with something for everyone. There are egg dishes you’re familiar with from places in the States, traditional Mexican meals, and all the sweets — pancakes, Belgian waffles, you name it!
As the name suggests, Kaffee Haus is also known for its coffee selection. Give me a nice big mug of cappuccino with steamed milk on top — yes, please! And they even do the cute coffee house designs!
The inside is eclectic, with mismatched tables fit into every nook and cranny. You might be at a 6-person table that’s up two stairs and tucked in a hallway. Or their single-person table overlooking the restaurant. They also have patio seating where you can watch the fishing boats come in after their long nights.
On weekends, expect a wait unless you get there early. Kaffee Haus is on the way to the Malecon, right off the main road (Blvd. Benito Juarez/Hwy 8). It’s one of the few places that has a parking lot, which is usually attended by a very nice and helpful gentleman. It’s near Jessy’s Fish Market, before the road splits going into the Old Port/Malecon area.
Kaffee Haus is my perfect “first day in town” go-to. Wake up early, get a nice breakfast and coffee, then swing by Jessy’s to get my shrimp and fish for the next few days.
My favorite meal at Kaffee Haus is the “Strammer Max.” Thick, German-style sourdough bread is layered with ham and eggs. I order it with a side of Hollandaise sauce for a DIY eggs benedict. The Hollandaise is so thick and creamy, I’m not sure if I’ll ever venture away from this meal. They serve it with homestyle potatoes and a generous serving of bacon. And pickles, if that’s your thing (sin pepinillo for me, por favor).
The service at Kaffee Haus is excellent. Everything is neat and clean. The fancy coffees may be a little pricey, but it’s still less expensive (and better-tasting) than Starbucks.
So get out of bed and go try the place everyone is talking about, Kaffee Haus, the best breakfast in Puerto Peñasco!
